Gray Sea Star
The gray sea star (Luidia clathrata) is a species of starfish that is native to the western Atlantic Ocean. It can be found from Virginia south to Brazil, the Caribbean Sea, and the Gulf of Mexico. It is a large, flattish starfish, that can grow to a diameter of 12 inches (30 centimeters). The color of this species is usually gray or light brown but can be also be tinged with pink. The gray sea star is both a predator and a forager. Its diet includes mollusks, small crustaceans and detritus.
