Ice World Europa
This view of Jupiter's moon Europa was taken by the Galileo orbiter as it studied the Jovian system. The colors of this image have been enhanced to bring out subtle details that would normally be too faint to see. The image shows the bright, icy surface of this moon crisscrossed with cracks and fissures. Darker areas are believed to represent rocky material that has been brought up from the interior of the moon. Europa is believed to have a liquid water ocean beneath its thick, icy crust.
