Twin Peaks on Mars

The Mars Pathfinder rover captured this amazingly detailed image of the Martian surface on July 4, 1997. The two hills in the distance were nicknames "Twin Peaks" by the Pathfinder research team. These hills are approximately 100 feet tall and are about a half-mile away in the distance. The area is littered with large rocks and the reddish orange color of Mars ia plainly visible. The red color comes from iron oxide, also known on Earth as rust.
