Helix Nebula

This Hubble Space Telescope composite image shows the famous Helix Nebula, also known as NGC 7293. The image shows fine details of features embedded in the colorful red and blue gas ring, which is one of the nearest planetary nebulae to Earth. The image offers an amazing look into what is actually a trillion-mile-long tunnel of glowing gases. The fluorescent tube is pointed nearly directly at Earth, so it looks more like a bubble than a cylinder. The Helix Nebula is located about 700 light years from Earth in the constellation Aquarius.
