Elegant Sea Star
The elegant sea star (Fromia nodosa) is species of starfish native to the tropical waters of the Indo-West Pacific Ocean. It can be found from Seychelles to Indonesia and the Maldives at depths of up to 115 feet (35 meters). This species has five triangular arms radiating from an apparent central disc. It is usually reddish, but can sometimes range from blueish to orange. Its upper surface is covered with large, embossed rounded plates. It grows to 4 inches (10 cm) in diameter and feeds on mollusks, corals, detritus, and algae.
